Eschatological Expectation : Maranatha !

The Church confesses the mystery of faith at every eucharistic celebration : « We proclaim your death, Lord, and we glorify your resurrection until you come in glory ! »

The Community, with the whole Church, waits for the coming of Jesus in glory, the day when the whole of humanity and  the whole of creation will be united in the love of Jesus Christ.

Seized by this eschatological urgency and striving toward the perfection of the world to come, the Community « groans and sighs » (Rm 8,22) with the whole of creation in incessant and vigilant prayer : « Maranatha – come Lord Jesus ! »

Through its way of life, the Community proclaims implicitly and explicitly the reality of the Kingdom and the imminence of its advent (Cf, Book of Life N°5)

On Monday : Parousia

“The Lord has taught us to say: “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” He also taught us that the prayer of the elect can shorten the day of trial of the world. Finally, He invites us to respond to his invitation: “Remain watchful and pray, for you know neither the day nor the hour”; “happy the servants their master will find awake when he comes”. (Book of Life, no 43)

On Tuesday : Unity

“We cannot believe that Christ’s own prayer will not be heard and granted by the Father, when before his Passion, He said: ”I have given them the Glory You have given me that they may be one as we are One, I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfect in unity.” Now, the Master of all ages, pursuing his purpose of grace with wisdom and patience toward the sinners we are, has started, in these end times, to increase in the hearts of divided Christians, a spirit of repentance and a longing for unity. We shall pray for the scandal of the division within the Body of Christ to cease, begging the Father to bring about dialogue where there is hard-heartedness, to inspire all heads of the Churches to impart to all a passion for Unity.” (Book of Life, no44)

On Wednesday : Vocations

“The Holy Council asserts that the “concerted action of the whole people of God to bring vocations to fruition is a response to the action of divine Providence. It is the latter who chooses certain men to participate in Christ’s hierarchical priesthood, who grants them the necessary gifts and who helps them according to His grace.” We shall also pray for all those who, in one way or another, serve the Church of Christ as well as for all religious communities. We shall intercede more specifically for priestly vocations, for “the fields are already white and ready for the harvest, but the labourers are few.” (Book of Life, no45).

On Thursday: Proclamation of the Kingdom of God

“We shall pray for all those who, in one way or another, proclaim the coming of the Kingdom of God and for all those who “fill up what is lacking in the Passion of Christ for the sake of his body, the church”. May God confirm “their testimony by signs, wonders, miracles of every kind as well as by gifts of the Holy Spirit which He distributes as He wishes”.(Book of Life, n°46)

On Friday: the fulfilment of God’s purpose for Israel

“Saint Paul speaks of the mystery of Israel as conatural to the mystery of the Church when he says: “Brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery lest you be conceited; blindness has come upon part of Israel; until the full number of Gentiles enter in, and then all Israel will be saved.” Thus all the nations and all Israel are united in a common destiny. Therefore, intercession for the Jewish people will have pride of place in our prayer for the universal church and the fulfilment of the end times.” (Book of Life, n°47)
